What is Yoga?
Yoga is a natural and holistic remedy for the cessation of mental modifications due to the mind, intellect, and ego. Yoga is to unite, combine, and integrate the mind, body, and soul. Yoga is known as soft power i.e. cultural heritage & ancient science of India. Regular practice of this leads to a flexible body, a calm mind, and a positive attitude towards life. It offers us a path of life and leads us from the state of degeneration towards one of integration, health, and harmony by harnessing our inherent healing potential to the fullest. As yoga hits the fundamental issue of control of mind reducing it to consciousness leading in turn to self-realization. It is the only fundamental cure for all Naisthiki (divine) and Laukiki (worldly) ailments.
Journey of Yoga
The government of India has projected it as a cultural symbol and designated it as International Yoga Day by the United Nations. It was proposed by Honorable Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his address to United Nations General Assembly in 2014. The draft received broad support from 177 Member states which were adopted without a vote, which is the highest number of co-sponsors ever for any UNGA Resolution of such nature.
Benefits of Yoga
Yoga heals in a number of ways at a number of levels viz. by developing the appropriate mindset, by inducing relaxative effect, by relieving anxiety and stress, by rehabilitating effect on different parts of the body besides cleansing effect, by promoting postural and improved body functions.
Yoga therapy is not magic therapy. It is not a “one pill for all ills”. We need to take into consideration the whole history of an individual and is to be imparted through systemic counseling for the practice of relevant aspects of yoga such as Yama, Niyama, relaxation, and meditation.
The yoga-asanas are to be performed by an individual to relax the stressed muscles of the body and relieve pain and other associated symptoms by transforming the negative energy into positive energy and creating the positive aura inside and outside the body. It will further enhance the healthy healing of the body tissues and calm the mind. The relevant aspects of yoga include Yama, Niyama, relaxation, and meditation.
International Yoga Day in 2020
The theme for 2020th International Day of Yoga is “Yoga at Home and Yoga with Family” due to the spread of COVID 19 pandemic across the World. So let’s begin from this auspicious day to adopt these certain easy yoga-asanas in our daily life for positive physical and mental health and strengthen our immunity against this novel Corona Virus.
